I went to Corrimal Timber‘s annual Celebration of Urban Salvaged Timber yesterday, and had a great time catching up with the guys and meeting some new people.
They had a lot of timber offcuts, bookmatched boards, turning blanks and other items for sale – I may have over-indulged slightly, but I did get some really nice boards!

That table full of carving work is by Tess McMaugh.
David Wilson from Five Islands WoodTec was there, and it was great to catch up with him and some of his students I’d met previously. David has “learn to turn” classes planned as well, which sounds like a lot of fun.

Local guitar maker Ryan Breslin was there as well, and we had a good chat. I mentioned that I’d recently watched The Last Violin on SBS On Demand (well worth a watch!), and he told me about the documentary The Little Box That Sings from 1998, that also profiled Sydney violin-maker Harry Vatiliotis from The Last Violin.
Ryan’s guitars were beautiful. He even makes the the inlay around the sound holes himself.

Another local woodworker, Patrick Gould, had some of his work on display and for sale. We had a good chat about recycling salvaged timber for our woodwork. I particularly liked Patrick’s shave horse, which he uses for his spoon making.

Local carver Joe Papac from Heirloom Woodcarving was there as well, although I didn’t get a chance to talk to him. He does amazing work.

Daryl from Modified Trees By Daryl had some boxes on display, and also some interesting examples of various types of hinges used for box-making.

I saw KWG members Mal and Ken there as well, although I didn’t get their photos.
All in all it was an enjoyable morning despite the rain, and I came away with a number of interesting pieces of timber. Definitely one to put on your calendar for next year!
